Marathon Relay

New for 2025!! Complete the marathon course in relay style with your colleagues, friends and family.

Register your team of 2-4 runners and combine your strength to see how fast you can finish a marathon together on the same beautiful course as our marathon runners.

Leg 1 - Marathon start to Little Dell Reservoir (6 miles)

Leg 2 - Little Dell Reservoir to Hogle Zoo (9.5 miles)

Leg 3 - Hogle Zoo to Rice Eccles Stadium (6 miles)

Leg 4 - Rice Eccles Stadium to The Finish (4.7 miles)

A standard team will comprise of four (4) runners. However, you may complete the relay division with teams of 2 or 3 runners if you have a runner who would like to run more than one leg.

Start Time

5:30 a.m. - Leg 1 of the relay begins at Big Mountain with the Marathon Runners.

The course will close after 6 hours. After that, all runners will be directed toward the sidewalk.

Packet Pickup

Wednesday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Location: TBA

You may pick up packets for someone else if you bring a signed note or email authorizing you to do so. At packet pickup you will get your race bib with timing chip, shirt, relay slap bracelet, and goodie bag.

There is no race day packet pickup.

Registration will still be available in person at packet pick-up on July 23. Online registration closes at 5pm on Wednesday, July 23.

Leg 1

Leg 1: Marathon start to Little Dell Reservoir (6 miles).

Transportation: Meet at Rice-Eccles Stadium to board the Marathon Shuttle Buses between 3:45 a.m. – 4:15 a.m.

These buses will be lined up along the west side of the stadium. It is your responsibility to arrive early enough to park and be seated on a bus before departure. Do not plan on driving to the starting line.

Upon finish of Leg 1, runners will be shuttled back to Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Leg 2

Leg 2: Little Dell Reservoir to Hogle Zoo (9.5 miles). This leg begins 6 miles into the marathon.

Transportation: The runner for this leg can take the Half Marathon bus from Rice-Eccles Stadium. Alternatively, drop offs are allowed at this location.

The Half Marathon buses depart from Rice-Eccles Stadium between 4:30-4:45 a.m. Buses will drop off half marathoners first, then Relay leg 2 runners.

Timing: The runner from leg 1 is expected to arrive at the exchange between 6 - 6:45 a.m. (depending on their pace).

Leg 3

Leg 3: Hogle Zoo to Rice Eccles Stadium (6 miles). This leg begins 15.5 miles into the marathon.

Starting location: This leg begins at the opening of Emigration Canyon, just east of Hogle Zoo on Sunnyside Ave. Map of leg 3 start: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jf26hBi2jP18Y2bh7

Transportation: There is no runners' shuttle to the start of leg 3 (and from the end of leg 2). There is limited parking. Leg 3 runners should make arrangements to be dropped off at Rotary Glen Park. Runners in leg 2 should be picked up from Rotary Glen Park.

Timing: The runner in leg 2 should arrive at this exchange between 6:45 - 8 a.m., depending on your team's pace.

Leg 4

Leg 4: Rice-Eccles Stadium to Liberty Park (finish line). This leg begins 21.5 miles into the race.

Starting location: Rice-Eccles Stadium

Transportation: Runners are required to get themselves to the start of this leg. There will be shuttles back to Rice-Eccles Stadium from the Liberty Park finish line for all runners between 7 and 11:30 a.m.

Timing: The runner in leg 3 is expected to arrive between 7:15 - 9 a.m., depending on your team's pace.

Bag Drop

Bag Drops will only be provided for the first leg (Marathon Start Line). However, you can make plans with your incoming runner to bring items to the finish line for you. There will be bags and sharpies to write your bib number on at the Marathon (Leg 1) start line location which will be transported to the finish line for pickup. Please do not use the bag drop service for valuables as we cannot guarantee their safe keeping.

Awards and Divisions

The top 3 teams in each of the following divisions will be awarded with custom relay batons and medals at the finish line:

Corporate Division

Family Division

Senior Division (above 55)

Youth Division (Under 20).

We will also have a traveling trophy for bragging rights in the Corporate Division.
